Bloomberg Automates Japanese Government Bond Market-on-Close Trading
Bloomberg completed its first fully automated JGB Market-on-Close trade, streamlining workflows tied to Japan's BB3P reference rate.
Bloomberg has executed the first fully automated Japanese Government Bond (JGB) Market-on-Close trade, marking a significant operational milestone for one of the world's largest sovereign debt markets, the company announced from Tokyo on Oct. 4, 2026.
The new workflow aligns with BB3P, also known as Hikene Trading, the established Market-on-Close reference rate for JGBs. By automating the process end-to-end, Bloomberg aims to reduce manual intervention at a critical pricing moment that institutional investors and dealers rely on for daily valuations and benchmark settlement.

Market-on-Close mechanisms are widely used in fixed-income markets to establish transparent, end-of-day reference prices. Automating this workflow in the JGB market — one of the largest government bond markets globally — could lower operational risk, cut latency, and improve consistency for participants who depend on accurate close-of-day rates.
The move reflects a broader industry push toward electronic and automated trading infrastructure in fixed-income markets, which have historically lagged equities in the adoption of straight-through processing. Bloomberg's Electronic Markets division has been expanding automation capabilities across multiple asset classes and geographies.
Details on the full scope of eligible participants, planned rollout timelines, or additional instruments covered under the new automated workflow were not immediately disclosed. Continue reading at All Financial Services & Investing.
