PacBio, TychoBio Team Up to Build AI Models for Rare Disease Treatments
PacBio's Kinnex sequencing technology will supply full-length transcript data to power TychoBio's AI-driven drug discovery models for rare diseases.
PacBio and TychoBio have announced a collaboration aimed at accelerating the development of RNA therapeutics for rare diseases, using advanced sequencing technology to train artificial intelligence models, according to a release from GlobeNewswire.
At the center of the partnership is PacBio's Kinnex sequencing platform, which is designed to produce full-length transcript data — a level of molecular detail that shorter sequencing methods often cannot capture. TychoBio intends to use that high-fidelity data as training material for its drug discovery AI models, a step the companies say could sharpen the precision of therapeutic candidate identification.

Rare diseases have historically posed significant challenges for drug developers, in part because small patient populations limit the clinical and biological data available to researchers. AI-driven approaches that draw on rich genomic and transcriptomic datasets represent an emerging strategy to offset that scarcity, allowing computational models to identify patterns that might otherwise go undetected.
The collaboration reflects a broader industry trend in which sequencing hardware companies and biotechnology firms are forming early-stage partnerships to build proprietary datasets capable of supporting machine-learning pipelines. Full-length RNA transcript profiling, in particular, has gained attention as a tool for understanding how genes are expressed and spliced — information directly relevant to designing RNA-based medicines.
